SOS – Social Operating System

11 Aug

“An operating system is software, consisting of programs and data, that runs on computers, manages computer hardware resources, and provides common services for execution of various application software. The operating system is the most important type of system software in a computer system. Without an operating system, a user cannot run an application program on their computer, unless the application program is self booting.”

Now that Wikipedia answered the question what is an operating system I would like to explain why I am interested in the next step. The human factor. The social operating system. SOS.

Social Media libre – Revolution in 5 Schritten

20 Feb

What? Why? How? – Enigma Enterprise 2.0

5 Jan

During my Christmas holiday I had some time to read an interesting research report on Enterprise 2.0 in Europe, written by David Osimo, Paul Foley and Federico Biagi (Tech4i2); Mike Thompson and Lee Bryant (Headshift); David Bradshaw (IDC).

My first idea was to write a German post highlighting the most important results for companies, communication consultancies and everybody I might be sharing the same objective: Introducing social media into the corporate firewall.

The report presents the interim results of the study “Enterprise 2.0”, executed by Headshift, IDC and Tech4i2 for the European Commission DG INFSO. Its 160 pages offers a great source of data and I decided in the end to gather the most interesting quotes and paragraphs and prepare a simple working paper I might use for my job. Instead of saving it on my PC only, I decided sharing it with you in case you need some interesting background information. All use cases and tables can be read in the report.

Welcome Enterprise 2.0…

27 Dez

Have you heard about somebody in a global company complaining about how to coordinate international internal communications? Yes: and what did they do to foster great dialogue with employees worldwide and coordinate intercultural working groups? Let me guess: send out e-mails, print an information leaflet (English only), and promise a video conference every six months?

And the outcome? Difficult to evaluate, you say. Non-responsive employees, I see. Video conferences too expensive. Really?

Best of 2010 - PART Three

It changed.

My life.

Well, at least my social media life did.

Since I left the world of consultancies, proposals, concept papers and nagging clients (why clients don’t get how great my ideas are?) to become a nagging client myself (why agencies don’t understand my great briefing?), I hardly had time or any inspiring idea for another post on this blog. Honestly, the reason why I started this blog in the first place was to enter the world of WordPress – I love it and I miss it behind the corporate firewall – and to entertain. Mainly myself. Sorry, dear occasional reader.

And what do you (I) do when you (I) want to resurrect your (my) blog? Exactly. Share a „Best of“ series of old stuff! Don’t they do the same on TV when they start searching their archives at the end of the year and sell their old stuff to a numb audience again and again?
