Building your (SharePoint) house

The following story is an example of how you might want to explain your collaboration platform based on SharePoint 2010 to your employees. It does not cover many additional features, which we train using different stories, but traditional training material as well.

In our case, simply said, we created four different templates describing digital places offered for sharing information, improving collaboration, increasing transparent communication and fostering networking. Those four single templates can be customized and brought together as one overall department digital place we like to call workplace, not following SharePoint terminology. Our main entry point to this platform is the MySite concept, which we customized completely including the latest Newsgator technology, allowing a fully personalized business network profile and collaboration cockpit.

Sharing Knowledge Sharing

A couple of months ago I wanted to explain in a few words to some of my colleagues what is behind that frightening term Knowledge Management. We tend to be afraid of things or people we don’t know, don’t we?

My audience was not only a quite sceptical one, but a very busy one and not too interested in “loosing” time in some academically driven speech without any business approach. I mean really, did any KM concept sell any product yet? Or cut costs? If it would be business critical, wouldn’t Senior Management have already taken care of it and told us what to do?

Sharing – just another way of networking

Did you do it today? Yesterday? This week? If your answer is no, here goes my (free) advice to you. Join us and do it as often as possible.

Sharing information is an excellent way of using social media as a knowledge distribution tool. Thanks to social bookmarking sites such as Delicious, we can tag and bookmark interesting articles, posts and videos – in one word: content. Those of us who spend several hours online daily can create a library for their team, themselves and everybody with similar interests.
